About the composers
Toronto-based composer Juro Kim Feliz (he/him) has presented works across Asia, the Americas, and Europe. With music “[thriving] in the sustained tension, like the kinetic energy emanating from the corners of a frame, the opposing forces holding up a house” (Musicworks), his work invests on spatialities and Southeast Asian modes of thinking and music-making. Awards include the Goethe Southeast Asian Young Composer Award (2009) and “Highly Commended” distinctions at the Ars Electronica Forum Wallis (2018, 2024), with a nomination for the “Excellence Award in Music and Entertainment” at the Golden Balangay Awards (2019) in Canada. Aside from serving as composer-in- residence of Toronto’s New Music Concerts (2022-2023), Feliz completed residencies at the Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts (2018), Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (2019), the Canadian Music Centre Ontario Library Residency (2018-2019). and Willapa Bay AiR (2023). His works are published under Babel Scores, with music releases under Ablaze Records (2017), Ravello Records (2022), MusiKolektibo (2023), and synth-pop releases as singer-songwriter Grumpy Kitty Boy. Feliz has also served as producer and co-host (2015-2017) of the radio talk show Sigaw ng Bayan at CKUT 90.3 FM Montreal, and is currently a contributor for Musicworks Magazine.

Jimena Maldonado (b.1988) is a Mexican composer, researcher and educator. Having studied both Composition and Photography, she is interested in combining the two disciplines in order to achieve alternative forms of composing, researching, collaborating, and presenting her work. Her music has been performed and commissioned by the Ligeti Quartet (UK), Jeffrey Zeigler (USA), Decibel ensemble (UK), Cuarteto José White (MX), Cepromusic Ensamble (MX), Rohan de Saram (UK), Orkest de Ereprijs (NL), BlackBox Ensemble (USA), Bozzini Quartet (CAN), and HD Duo (AUS), in festivals such as the Manuel Enríquez International Festival of New Music (MX), Le Tout-petit festival musical (FR), Open Circuit Festival (UK), Fem Fest (NL), Dag in de Branding (NL) and MATA Festival (USA), among others. In 2020, she won the prestigious Hildegard Competition of the National Sawdust in New York City. Her debut album ‘Intervened memory’ was released in 2022 by Birmingham Record Company. Jimena completed a BA in Composition and Music Theory at the Research and Music Studies Centre (CIEM) in Mexico City and holds an MA in Composition from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She completed a PhD at the Birmingham Conservatoire, with the support of CONACYT-FINBA (MX). Jimena currently works as a freelance composer and a Lecturer at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in The Netherlands.
